Cécile Costa Joins Scannell Properties, France as Development and Environment Director

Cécile Costa

The American property development and investment company Scannell Properties, which specialises in major industrial and logistics projects, is reinforcing its environmental skills with the appointment of Cécile Costa as Development and Environment Director. Cécile, who is a specialist in environmental and risk management for logistics buildings, is joining Scannell in France, with the very specific objective of integrating sustainable practices into all Scannell’s development processes and minimising the environmental impact of its buildings and surrounding sites.

Cécile, a qualified engineer, joins from the ANDINE Group where she ran the environmental Safety Division for the last two years. Prior to this she spent 19 years at Qualiconsult Group, heading up its Environment and Risk Control Department and before that she worked at Arup Acoustics and the Irish National Environmental Research Institute.

At Scannell, Cécile will also have responsibility for navigating French environmental regulations, which are some of the most complex and extensive in the world. She will also identify ways of going beyond these legal requirements to position Scannell as a leader in sustainable development.

Cécile’s hire further demonstrates Scannell Properties commitment to delivering on its obligations agreed as part of the Logistics Buildings Environmental and Economic Performance Charter, an initiative from the French logistics association AFILOG, supported by the French government. This Charter lays down targets for the environmental performance of logistics buildings and its commitments include systematic installation of photovoltaic roofing and requirements for biodiversity and rainwater infiltration.

ʺControlling the ecological impact of our work is of vital importance, not only to us but to our clients, both occupiers and investors. We are also committed to ensuring we enhance the attractiveness of our developments for the local communities by acting with due regard to the natural environment. Cécile’s arrival will enable us to take a more than significant step towards achieving our objectives of reducing our carbon impact and the environmental risks of our projects.ʺ said Amaury Gariel, Scannell Properties’ Managing Director for Europe and the UK

Cécile Costa added: I am excited to join Scannell Properties at a time when warehouse development is booming across France. Manufacturing, retail and third-party-logistic sectors all face extreme pressure to modernise supply chains and keep pace with changing consumer habits. I see a huge opportunity for me to develop new ways of working and deliver projects that balance long-term environmental gains whilst meeting the immediate challenges faced by our clients. “
